Passport (one month old), wallet including drivers licence, maestro card, insurance card, student card, OV chip card and €30 cash. And also my custom made earplugs (€150)…
That evening, I was cycling from Rotterdam to Zoetermeer (15km) to transport my stuff from my dorm room to my parent place. It was already late (22:30), but the weather was nice and I felt like cycling. :)
It was quite warm (humid), so after 5km I decided to take off my jacket and put it in between the handles of my sports bag, which I held on to during the cycling.
Half way Z'meer and R'dam I discovered my jacket was gone! Oh Noooo!!! O_o
As fast as I could, I raced back the path I came from and searched for my (dark blue) jacket. The road was well lit, and not many people were on the street. So I was looking, and looking, but couldn't find anything... I even asked some road workers and people who were hanging around, but they didn't see anything. After spending 1,5 hours on the street, I decided to go home.
The next day I went back to Rotterdam to collect another bag, and again looked everywhere (trash cans and bushes) hoping the daylight would help me find it. Also I've asked people working in their garden, road workers and people fishing, but they hadn't seen anything. On my way back to Zoetermeer, I've also been to a local police station, but nothing was found there.
Saturday evening I tried a last shot at finding my jacket, by putting paper notes into peoples letterbox, explaining my situation.
At this moment (Monday morning), I do not expect someone to find it any more. It has probably been stolen, and thrown away (or maybe sold on Ebay, who knows?). Today I'm requesting a new passport, and with fast application I'll probably can pick it up tomorrow. This means that I probably won't be able to execute my first stages, but that’s the way it is.
The good thing is that I think all my bad luck is out of my system, and I'm still able to do my trip! :-)
As I was writing this message, the municipality of Bergschenhoek calls me: “The police came in this morning and dropped off some of your documents.” My passport, insurance card, student card and OV chip were found! This was quite a relief, it saves me €115 and most important: I can execute my journey as planned. :-)
This shows that I have to be more careful on my journey, and I’m quite certain I will be. ;-)
Up to the next adventure!
