The fourth day: what a day!It was like driving in a hot oven all day, not very pleasant. But I made it!
The day started with a great meal, together with Christina and here roommate; nice 'earth tea' and even Dutch 'hagelslag'! Thanks for the nice talks, and sorry that you had to get up so early ;)
09:20 I started my trip, the temperature was still OK, and there was even some shade. But after 40 km's things were starting to get harder: the wind was blowing like crazy! (wind-power 4 or 5) How could this be? I'm I not far enough inland?? Anyway, after 55 km I decided I was time for a good meal: a nice Jäger Schnitzel and a large soda were going in very easily :D
The part thereafter was total chaos: temperatures around 14:00 were probably around 35+ and there were some roadwork: no good alternative roads were nearby. So I decided to go, into the mountains: wrong choice. It was incredible steep (definitely 15% or more) and at the path became narrower and narrower, more like a hiking trail! O_o This is something I didn't see on the map... After the hell in jungle, I was quite exhausted, and ready to throw my bike for the train. But luckily, the road became wider again, and I got out of the mess.
After this mini-adventure I took the ferry to cross the river, and as always, the grass was greener on the other side. It was still pretty hot, and there was a lack of shadow. But I pushed on, so I made my sleeping address in time.
At some point a group of old cyclist were passing me, and then driving slow in front of me: irritating. I'm cycling not to have 'stau'! :p
Around 19:30 I came to my destination, near Frankfurt. First I took a much needed shower, with all the bugs and dust on my skin. We ate cold soup and some potatoes: never have I been more happy with a cold meal! :D
Later that evening we went outside to play some table tennis, very much fun. Brings back some old memories, haha.
Tomorrow will again be a extremely hot day, I hope I will survive! ;)
