The great journey!

Hello everybody,
Tuesday the 15th of July I will start the journey of my life! A cycling trip from the Netherlands to Serbia, a 2000km long journey alongside Europe’s rivers and canals! The main route will follow the Rhein, Mains, Mains-Danube channel and the Danube. I have had this plan for more than 7 years, it all started in those years when I did some long cycling tours in the Netherlands. From my former homer town Zoetermeer I have cycled to Amersfoort, Enkhuizen, Groningen, Den Helder, Zevenbergen, Rhenen, Enschede, Vlissingen, Eindhoven, Maastricht, Joure and so on... pretty much all over the Netherlands. Now it's time for something new! :-)
I have started planning this trip about 1,5 years ago: I was sitting in my room, wondering if it would be possible to do such a trip. So I started to look on maps and satellite images, and using a measuring tool I created a complete route from the Netherlands to Serbia. When I finished it, and saw with my own eyes it was possible (roads actually existed), and I started thinking of executing my plan.
It took until the beginning of this year before I actually decided to say YES, I'm going to do it!!! Many things went through my head; what was the best way to tackle the different challenges of the trip? In the end I realized, not everything could be planed for such a trip, so there will be always uncertainties (but that's how life is ;) During my trip to Dusseldorf on my famous (have you ever been) yellow folding bike, I realized it would great and I decided to execute my plan!!
The last few months have been quite hectic, optimizing my route, arranging places to sleep, trying to prepare for everything.
I have contacted almost 200 people, and found place to sleep! Really nice to see many people want to support my trip! :-)
Furthermore I've done some modifications to my bike and it should be all okay! :-)
I'm really looking forward to meeting new people and cycling through the beautiful countryside!
